Walking the Streets of Paris

Imagine that you were in Paris, getting a coffee, walking to meet a friend, and all of sudden you come across a group of boys sitting in the corner of a cafe playing they're instruments. Now these boys are American, and happen to be quite famous. They are Vampire Weekend, aka basically one of my favorite bands of all time. Now thanks to Scotty, I get to see it. Scotty has shown me La Blogotheque, this blog is a collection of videos of artists performing their music live, and it appears that it is mostly impromtu and in the streets. Now these guys have gotten a lot of people to do this for them from Sufjan to Radiohead to Animal Collective to of course Vampire Weekend. Its really great because you get to see the artists up close and personal, you get to see them embarrassed to be impromtu performing for people that probably have never heard their music. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

Tea Party

Leith and I have been trying to have a tea party for the longest time, and so because of that I have felt the need to look for party dresses. Last summer for some reason I wore an old white silk negligee that I stole from my mom and a jean skirt, it just worked well. But for this summer I need to renew my dress collection, and I think something along the lines of these will work.

Lily Kitty tulip dress found on Pixie Market. I like this, however its made of entirely polyester, and that just won't do in the Annapolis humidity. But then again, I will always sacrifice for looking good. This cute little thing is from Bluebird Vintage, basically the perfect thing for an afternoon tea party.

I LOVE THIS, I'm all about chiffon. Anzevino and Florence found on 80s Purple. I'm actually thinking about making a dress very similar to this, except pink, but the navy intrigues me.

I love the simplicity of this, and of course the pockets. Converse by John Varvatos, also found on 80s Purple. This work well for night, and if I end up hostessing again this summer, it work well for that too. Not to slutty, but still attractive, aka perfect for work.

Something Silly

So my friend Julia came across this website a while back, and it basically was about these Japanese girls dumping their purses onto scanners and then posting the pictures onto the site. Well I got bored tonight and decided to do, nothing much interesting. Vogue, Nylon, composition notebook (that I use for all of my classes), pens, pencils, earrings, keys, Tarte lipgloss (I have Jake and Samantha), Burts Bees chapstick, Lorac lip/cheeck stain ( I have Sheer Emotion), Mat and Nat vegan leather wallet, my passport, exacto knife, and my Watchmen button.

I have been in a torrential downpour for the last week, Georgia is supposed to be in a drought for christs-sake. And because of that I have no rain coat or boots or anything to get me through this mess. So here are some pretty little things to get through this glum time.

So I found this picture of the beautiful Ed Westwick on 2 hot 2 handle via yahoo. Leith thinks its gross, and I would agree. But when I was in Scotland for New Years, I saw many a kilt, and they made the guys look so HOT!! A man in a skirt is a man who is confident, like it made me swoon when I saw them. And of course I can't find a descent picture of one, but just trust me.

Trying to find dresses for summer I came across this little number, now yes it is not exactly the most practical thing ever, but who really cares. My friend L. and I were looking at dress somewhat similar on Bluebird Vintage, but of course it's gone now. So I now have gone on a search for other pretty little things like this.Now problem with this style is that its hard to find actually vintage pieces in good enough shape, and the possibility of thrifting a descent one seems somewhat slim in my eyes. So what do you do? Well you raid your grandmother's (or even a great-grandma) closet, or their attic. I know that personally I've found some really great pieces, and I've updated them (going as far as wearing them backwards because for some reason it just looks better that way). But if your grandmother unfortunately threw away all of her good work clothes without thinking that her grand-daughter/son would want them in the future, here are few other possiblities.
This is a Tory Burch Fletcher , only problem I see with this is that it is wool, but I personally am one of those freaks that will wear a wool skirt that was definatley made for fall only in the summer, because it looks better without tights. So with this I feel the same, I would rough the humid weather of Maryland and wear this on an evening out.

Now yes this not quite 60s work place but there was something about this Miu Miu dress that caught my attention, it was probably the pockets. But I love the high collar, and it would be something that could easily be worn to work, and then move to night, or just for night. And another good thing about this dress is that you would just need to throw it on.

Yes this is not a dress, but I felt it went along with the theme, and I have a thing for coats.

So I should be studying right now for a Psych test that I don't know the material on, but anyways, I have found this! Yes a cape, a beautiful, beautiful herringbone cape! I found it on an Etsy vintage site called halfCaf. It is $65.00, which actually seems reasonably priced, and the seller has lots of other great things, which are priced well too. Now I know this is not the best color but when you think about it, its perfect! Today if they made that it would giant black and white with red houndstooth, which is something that everyone has. So this piece really is perfect --I mean if your into this kind of stuff-- it screams vintage, and like a rainy day in the English/Scottish countryside, and you need a cape because it's so much more practical to wear because of course you'll be riding a horse, and a long pea coat will just bunch up around your shoulders and I think we all know that that is not comfy. And so if you aren't me--aka have more money to spend on vintage outerwear--buy this right now, because its soooooo worth it.

Pretty Little Dirty

So one of my friends S.H. showed these to me, these absolutely adorable pair of panties from Steven Alan ($35). And at first I was confused because S. is a boy, I was like why would you like these, they aren't sexy, they're almost old fashioned, but then it just hit me. They are romantic, that's the whole point, they evoke this idea that lingerie doesn't have to be either lacy or ugly or from the Pink section of Victoria's Secret. They're just cute and that's it, and that is why I love them. Yes they are a bit pricey for a pair of underwear, but I think they would be worth it because you would feel so amazing in them, and they would make all your cares go away, well not all of them, but your boyfriend would get a kick out of them.

Some say yes....they should say no.

So in my last post I talked about how excited I was for certain trends that were appearing in the Spring Collections. I also mentioned that to my disappointment Harem pants were back in style. Well as I was looking on Nasty Gal Vintage, I came across this unfortunate looking garment. They are black and with a green elephant print, and to add to it there are rhinestone encrusted red buttons at the ankle cuffs. I have to agree to with some people that on occasion this will work, you have to wear heals with them and a more subtle top, but just because they are back does not mean that you should wear them. We all remember the 90s and when were making fun of the parachute pants, where have those days gone, what kind of world do we live in that these are now acceptable to wear outside of an 80s dance party?

Scallops and Shapes

The January issue of British Vogue came with a small zine on all the trends in the new spring collections and of course I was ecstatic when I saw that gold and color-blocking was back in. And then I freaked when I saw that nude colors(pale pinks, corals, and beiges) were in as well because I was at the time making a pale pink dress for an upcoming dance. Then they're were the other things that baffled me, mostly why were harem pants all of a sudden back in? They are awful, you have to be ridiculously skinny and tall(and I am not) to pull them off. The one thing that struck me the most was that flow-y shapes were coming into play, the one that poped out the most to me was this Christoper Kane Scalloped silk dress($5,165). It has so many layers, and it gives even the stick models curves. Others that had the same idea was Karl Lagerfeld, he did not have the scallops but he had a beautiful tea dress with square sillouette cut-outs, which is fabulous!

Wincing The Night Away

Now as a person who suffers from terrible vision I had come to the conclusion that I would never find a pair of glasses that would look good on my face(one of my ears is higher then the other making smaller glasses look lopsided) until I found these Nerd Alert Glasses($30). A friend introduce
d me to Nastygal, which is an online vintage store, which also has new vintage-esque apparel and accessories. She of course happens to be getting a pair too. Other good finds from the store would be the red rope belt(&48),
platform oxfords($88) and the abstract printed tank dress($108) and Victor Costa Architecture dress($248).
